1959 von Ángel Martín de Lucenay und Ángel Mora ins Leben gerufene mexikanische Comicserie, die von den Abenteuern des unerschrockenen Fischers Chanoc und seines Paten Tsekub Baloyán erzählte. Die Serie erfreute sich in Mexiko großer Beliebtheit, da sie seit mehr als zwanzig Jahren ununterbrochen wöchentlich von Herrerías Publications herausgegeben wird. Später gab es einige Versuche, die Publikation wieder auf den Markt zu bringen, Mitte der 90er Jahre, zuerst von Enigma und dann von Novedades.
Es gab mehrere Adaptionen für das Kino, mindestens acht Spielfilme zwischen 1967 und 1983.

Biografía
Mexican cartoonist mainly known because he was the graphic creator of the emblematic series Chanoc.
Ángel Mora was born in the city Frontera (Tabasco), then moved to the city of Mexico when he was very young, and there he joined the studio of Armando Anguiano (1940), a cartoonist and comic writer. Due to his great artistic ability, the very same Anguiano took him to the studio run by Ramón Valdiosera who immediately made him part of his staff. He worked for Valdiosera as a tracer in many of his productions, such as Oreja y Rabo and Relámpago Kid (1943) for the comic book Pepin. Ángel Mora collaborated in all the daily publications of the golden age of the national comic, in addition to Pepin, his masterful drawings were in Chamaco, Paquín, and Cartones. In the latter, he also wrote two comics of his own composition Tlotzin and El inmortal.
He also collaborated with the publisher La Prensa, where he wrote La Máscara Roja (1953) and Publicaciones Herrerías, there he also drew the characters of the comic Chanoc, born in 1959, and weekly published without interruption during more than twenty years. Chanoc was written by Ángel Martín de Lucena and then continued successfully by Pedro Zapiain. Aside from Chanoc, he drew Alma Grande and was the graphic creator of El Payo. Among other awards, Ángel Mora won the first place for the Primer Concurso Nacional de Historieta, celebrated in April 1982 by the Secretaria de Educación Pública.
Martin De Lucenay
Biografía
A doctor and sexologist, son of a photoengraver from Badajoz, he worked in the El Periódico de la Mañana newspaper of Badajoz under the pen-name El pájaro; he came up with the name Lucenay, which would then become his second last name. During the thirties, he published several books about sexology, some of which were very popular. The 60 title series ""Temas sexuales: Biblioteca de divulgación sexual"" (Fénix, 1932-1934) stands out.
In 1938, he emigrated to Mexico where he also worked as a movie director and scriptwriter. He is mainly remembered there for creating in 1959 the popular Mexican comic Chanoc with illustrator Ángel Mora, although he was only able to write the script for around twenty issues because he passed away in 1960.
